· Which stock market exchange is the company listed on?
Amazon is listed with the NASDAQ stock market which is the New York-based American Stock exchange. New York is home to the biggest stock exchanges and NASDAQ is one of them along with the New York Stock exchange. The market capitalization is approximately 419.4 trillion. The number of listings is also very extensive. It was founded by NASDAQ Inc. in 1971. Amazon was listed on NASDAQ when it went public with its initial public offering and its share were available to the investors. Since the share value of the company has increased substantially as the worth of the company has increased over the passage of time.
· Look at the past three years’ worth of stock activity for your company (Woods, 2021).
The stock price of Amazon has grown substantially in the last three years. The statistics show that it has increased at a faster pace than any other stock in the market. In 2019, the stock price was $2040 per share but now in 2021, it has gown $3223. The growth has been gradual as the share value remained below $3000 for the most part of 2020 and it finally reached $3058 in July 2020 but since then the share price has been growing again. The average stock value could be believed to be around $2700. The lowest value of stock rate in these three years is recorded to $2020 start of 2019 and the highest share value is $3554 in April 2021.
· Has the company ever initiated a stock split?
Amazon initiated a stock split three times between 1997 and 1999. But the circumstances were different back then. AT that time Amazon needed investors and it wanted to share its stocks hence it allowed the stock split. However, in the present situation amazon has a stock value in four digits and it is one of the most successful companies in the world as its owner is the wealthiest man on earth and primarily because of Amazon. The company would not find it appropriate to split its stock now because now the split would be a backward journey which the company does not want hence the split stock is now out of option.
· How many shares of stock are outstanding? Authorized? Issued?
Amazon has about half a billion outstanding shares. To price, the exact number of outstanding shares is 504.32 million shares. This number has grown from 0.5 billion in 2018 which increased to be 0.504 billion in 2019 and then 0.51 billion in 2020. The increase in authorized and issued shares has been 1.42% in 2018, 0.8% in 2019, 1.19% n 220, and finally 2.38% in 2021.
· Would you invest in this company based on what you have evaluated? Why, or why not?
If I were given a chance, I would invest in Amazon because the stock value of the company has been growing at a substantial rate and if their current rate will continue this means that what I would invest today will bear me great interest and profit in the future which is quite evident because, despite the global pandemic where business was shut off or they faced financial turbulence, Amazon kept on growing and making more and more profit. Hence for me, it will be a wise decision to invest in Amazon (Soper, 2020).
· Compare this company’s stock to another company within the same industry. How does the stock compare in terms of price and activity? Explain.
Walmart like Amazon is a retail giant which has an eminent market share. Although Walmart started off as a physical retail chain with technology and innovations, it has also shifted to an online presence and now competes with Amazon in the virtual world. Walmart was founded in 1962 hence it has been in business longer than Amazon but its market share value as of today is $142.03 which is much lower than Amazon. The company has been rowing in past three years in terms of its stock value but this stock value is neither closer to Amazon despite the two companies believed to be competitors.
