Social Injustice and Privilege
According to Johnson Allan, Black lives matter is an international movement that was
started in 2013. It was formed basically to fight for the rights against police brutality done
through racism. As it goes, the name of the movement, Black lives matter (BLM), really
criticized the discriminatory killing of the blacks, which was a direct opposite of what society
demanded that all lives were equal. This movement was given birth to three bold black women
going by the names Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tomsett. The campaign aims to
ensure that the blacks’ discrimination in the USA and Europe is eliminated (Kamionowski &
Jerzy, 392-407). The police brutality rate is high, and the victims of the cases are the blacks who
are killed because of stereotyping because the police have the perception that the blacks are the
ones that engage in criminal activities; hence they are being dealt with excessive force leading to
loss of lives for many blacks.
However, with the coming of the BLM movement, so many questions were raised by
other Americans concerning the name “black”, which meant that the black people were
segregating themselves. Therefore, they had to change it to All Lives Matter, which meant the
lives of all people are essential. It is advisable that discrimination cannot be used to solve the
existing historical discrimination, and that’s why all lives need to be given [priority instead of
concentrating only on the black life. Hiebert, Dennis states that the term “All Lives Matter” meant
that this movement cared about no color but all people and that no race was supreme to another,

and for that case, the police dealt with all individuals equally with no favoritism (Hiebert, Dennis,
1-4).
Even though the word “Black” in the movement is the root cause of all the mishaps, racial
discrimination, however, we cannot blame the blacks because for so long they had been living
under colonization and so for those that survived, coming up with such a name meant the unity of
the black. This is also on the idea of the “white “once one hears that then that is colour already,
which also means the categorization of the Americans as the white, meaning that is their identity
which is also causing racism. The phrase “Black Lives Matter” does not by any chance mean
“Black lives matter more.” Instead, it means, “Black lives matter, also.” And the distressing
uncertainty could be from an underlying misinterpretation of that.
Claudia Rankine, a writer and poet, has and will remain to be vocal on issues to do
with social injustice. According to Kamionowski, Jerzy, the writer felt the need to talk about
the injustices in the society after the killing of James Byrd Jr.Even though she knew her
works would be received with negativity, but that did stop her from penning them down.
At that time, the BLM was facing a lot of resistance in 2013 and 2014. To prove that many
injustices were happening, late in May, the white and people of colour (Black) were out on
the streets crying about the injustice after the killing of George Floyd. The demonstration
on the streets by people proved the power of the citizens when it comes to the fight against
social injustices. Different factors determine the success of any campaign motivated by the
idea of promoting equality within society. There is need of having activist that is the will
to sacrifice their life for the sake.
Hands up to Rankine work, such as Don’t Let Me Be Lonely and Citizen,
approached the issue of anti-Black racism in a tiresome and disastrous way. For decades

it seemed the cry of Rankine would never be heard. Still, in her work Just Us, her scream
finally touched so many souls. It opened the closed eyes that were closed for too long.
However bad the situation, dealing with the reality of social injustice would help instead
of forever assuming it didn’t exist. When the problem is stated and identifies, it becomes
easier to implement, then it is best to implement the recommended solutions that will
result in maximum yield. Therefore, the speaking out of injustice activities helps in
promoting equality and justice within the organization.
Looking at the issue of Social Injustice and Privilege, from both Allan G. Johnson
and Claudia Rankine, it is now clear that the whites are now reaching common ground
with the blacks concerning the injustice, which shows a ray of hope. However, change is
inevitable does not happen once; it is a process, and it will reach a point where the
country will fully confront racism. However, the change will be seen if there are changes
in organizations, where all people can be given jobs and run organizations without where
you are coming from.
There are things that each body would wish to achieve, and Black Lives Matter
also has its goals. Through the activists that this movement has, its primary objective has
been for the longest time to make it known how black people are treated with unjust and
how the institutions can be of help to maintain the unfairness. Through the campaigns and
peaceful protests, Black Lives Matter has managed to fight against racism. Most people
have suffered at the hands of civilians and the police forces responsible for protecting the
citizens. Still, the working environment is characterized by favoring the whites and
discriminating against the blacks.

Through BLM campaigns, they have managed to air out their grievances, including
police training on handling people and being fully responsible for the bad behavior from
the police who were demonstrating inhumane to people of color. This movement also
urged the government to discontinue the police from receiving funds instead of the funds
to pay the police in other activities like social services like hospitals dealing with mental
health. Another achievement of this movement is that they have gone an extra mile to
celebrate artists and writers who are blacks.
In conclusion, the campaign of black lives matter has been successful because of
its ability and strength. It motivates black people because of the output based on what the
activist is championing. The demonstration on the streets by people proved the power of
the citizens when it comes to the fight against social injustices. Different factors
