This is an MSc literature-based dissertation (integrative review). No quantitative/qualitative analysis of data is present. Final word count should be: 12,000w (includes footnotes, but excludes abstract, contents pages, appendices, bibliography, title page etc.). I am also attaching all of my notes if these will be helpful. My title is not yet clearly defined. The paperwork attempts to link 2 theoretical fields and come up with a model on how authentic leaders boost volunteers’ motivation and performance (through the authentic leadership and self-determination theories).
My initial idea of a model (a table is present in the Discussion part) has been approved by my supervisor and I have been encouraged to go with my ideas, broadly speaking. However, I have been given little advice and feedback, I find it difficult to create a clear, coherent structure, and I am not too sure how to present my idea. I am not sure regarding some of the parts and need the writer’s advice to figure it out. The initial goal of the dissertation may have to be changed a bit to make this paper work. My work may have to be simplified and streamlined to create a more targeted, coherent narrative and some parts will have to be cut out since it Is longer than it is supposed to be.
I have attempted to follow 3 initial goals in my dissertation; however, these may have to change to fit the word limit. Firstly, to explore how authentic leaders may boost their volunteers’ autonomous/intrinsic motivation, more authentic functioning, psychological growth, and subsequent performance. Secondly, explore what motives drive individuals to volunteer (one specific theory is used), and how these motives relate to different quality of motivation which, in turn, influences their quality of performance. Thirdly, explore whether authentic leaders may potentially influence their volunteers’ self-concepts so that they engage in more frequent display of other-oriented, prosocial motives for volunteering, which should result in superior extra-effort/extra-role performance (since authentic leaders are posited to have an effect on their followers’ more moral reasoning (that last part may be too much depending on the word limit, may need to clarify this further with the writer). One of my professors did agree that some followers may change their values under their leaders, but not all followers of course.
I can talk to the writer to further explain what I am trying to achieve later on.
