Description The midterm assessment is a presentation of 11
to 12 slides on your personal idea for the start of a
small business. It is to be structured as follows:
Cover slide indicating your name and the firm’s name
– Presentation of the idea/opportunity (your own
idea. If you can’t come up with an idea, you can
use a recent existing business; in this case, you
must cite your sources) and the
product/service/application: 1 slide
– Structure: Sole proprietorship? partnership?
Incorporation? indicate the Pros and cons of
your selected stucture:1 slide
– Brief elements of your marketing mix: 2 slides
– Description of the product/service
– Price range / strategy
– Brief elements of marketing/promotion
– Where/How do you plan to sell: own
store(s)? Third party distributors? online?
Omnichannel?
– Targeted customers: 1 slide
– What do you plan for the development of your
enterprise: based on your own structure? (e.g.
opening stores in various places) through
franchise contracts? a mix? Describe the pros
and cons of your selected strategy of
development: 2-3 slides

• Distinguish the characteristics, competences and contributions
of small businesses, as well as their challenges.
• Critically assess and apply suitable marketing and financing
strategies to small businesses
Format This activity must meet the following formatting requirements:
• To be submitted in Power Point, 11 to 12 slides.
• Recall the final slide is to include an alphabetical list of sources
using the Harvard Referencing System
• Students are also to record their presentation, upload it to their
One Drive, and post the link on Moodle (see the document How
to submit a video presentation on Turnitin activity)
• The length of the recorded presentation is to be between 8 and
15 minutes.
• Individual question and answer breakout sessions about the
presentations will be scheduled in class during weeks 6 to 8.
