This will cover three theories (Uses and Gratifications, Identity, and Hyperpersonal), relationships, online dating, and social support. In to prepare for you should review your readings, lesson content, and lesson assignments. After that read over the procedure and requirements below and write your responses. Respond to the scenario and questions below. Scenario: Your friend has been using the internet (a variety of sites) to meet new people and to find dating partners. They have been chatting with and have met several people they are interested in potentially exploring relationships with. Some of these people they have met in person, some they have only exchanged online messages. Given your newfound expertise from the last unit answer the following questions with your best insights and/or advice based on research we have discussed/read. Note: the information we learned about dating and online relationships could be applied in multiple questions. Explain what social support is, what type you think is appropriate in this situation, what medium you might use to send the message (and why), and give an example of a person-centered message you would actually say to a friend.
