Task 2 (a, b, c, and d)

a) Provide logical network diagrams showing how the organisation might provide the required services and connections. This may be one or more diagrams as you see fit. Any suitable drawing package can be used and you will not be graded on the drawings themselves; just the network design. Look on line to see many examples of how to draw network diagrams. [8]

• Provide a logical network diagram for the proposed network (must at least include switches, wired workstations, wireless access point, servers, a router and a firewall) [6]

b) Outline the cabling requirements for your design. You will obviously need a basic plan of the organisation for the physical layout design to determine the cabling requirements. You can use the information given in the scenario above to sketch a plan of the organisation’s site. Identify and justify the type(s) of cable used. Provide rough costs based on referenced supplier information found by searching the Internet. Since the organisation is in the UK, the supplier and price must be UK based. [8]

• Sketch a network layout plan of organisation’s site (physical network diagram) using the information given in the scenario. Either draw a separate diagram or build up on the logical network diagram provided in (a) to specifically focus on cabling aspect of the network. [4]

• Outline the cabling requirements for your design. Identify and justify the type(s) of cable used. Provide rough costs based on referenced supplier information found by searching the Internet. Since the organisation is in the UK, the supplier and price must be UK based. [4]

c) Explain each infrastructure device, what its function is and why you have selected that device for the job. This explanation must focus on the organisation and its requirements. [6] 

• Explain each infrastructure devices under a separate heading, its function, and the justification of using it for this case study (must at least include switch, wireless access point, servers, routers, and firewall) [6]

d) Identify and justify TWO specific products that could be used for each infrastructure device, including the exact make and model along with a supplier and price. Since the organisation is in the UK, the supplier and price must be UK based. Remember that this is a business and covers a large site, so equipment designed for home network use will not be appropriate [8]

Compare 2 products for each of the infrastructure devices (switches, wireless access points, firewalls, routers, and servers) based on the following;

• Make or Model/Series, Vendor or Supplier [1+1]
• Price [1+1]
• And, Number of Ports or Interfaces, if Rack/Blade/Tower, Processing Power, Memory, Connections e.g. 3G & WIFI etc. [2+2]
