Graham v. Connor was a case involving Graham entering a store quickly before leaving in a hurry.  Officer Connor observed this and with a history of robberies at the store stopped the vehicle that Graham was in.  Graham was detained due to his uncooperative behavior, he received injuries due to the force used to detain him.  Investigation showed that no crime had occurred, and Graham was released.   The United States Supreme Court ruled that the force used to detain Graham was objectively reasonable and set forth the guidelines or “Graham Factors” for what objectively reasonable is. The court threw out previously used tests of excessive force and established the reasonableness of use of force to the court, requires that 20/20 hindsight not be used but instead the perspective of a reasonable officer at the scene (Obasogie & Newman, 2018)  The court also ruled that the issues of force would be viewed through the fourth Amendment.

The most valued experience and knowledge one can receive at a young age is education. Juveniles who are placed in the juvenile justice system and are incarcerated for their actions are not provided the adequate educational needs. Providing appropriate education for juveniles in the system would link to the decrease of recidivism rates when leaving the system. Juveniles incarcerated only receive less than 33.3 % of the education needs mandated by their states and do not have a comprehensive education program in detention. The educators teaching the juveniles in the detention center are not as trained and knowledgeable in educating the youth. Most juvenile detention centers do not communicate with the juveniles’ public schools while they are incarcerated, which results in the lack of teaching them the appropriate education needs for when they return to the school system (Thielbar, 2021).
Topic 2: Peer Review
How did your peers’ changes affect or improve your work? Do you feel your work is now more user-centered? Explain your reasoning.

Topic 2: Student Response #1: (Respond to William below)

William Goins

Overall, the changes my peers made gave me the insight to look at the whole paper and see if could make similar change throughout. Having my peers look at my work has been helpful. I have never been good at editing my work and I could only do limited edits for others. But having exercises that allowed me to practice, I have found that small edits can make a tremendous difference. Just having someone look at basic grammar and sentence structure has made my work more user centered.
Overall, I believe that my work is more user centered. Having a third party look at my work with unbiased view truly makes the feedback more authentic. I have also learned that one does not have to always take the edits or ideas that someone suggests. They are there to make you contemplate changes. Just having some else give me ideas made my work more user centered.

Topic 2: Student Response #2: (Respond to Kelly below)

Kelly Rice

Throughout this course, the ability for peers to comment on, counter argue and improve upon work was helpful. In some instances, it made me see a certain thing from their viewpoint that I had not thought about before. For the paragraph reviews it allows someone else to have a glimpse into your paper and read it with a fresh take on it rather than the person writing it who knows exactly how they intended for it to be read. It allows a third-party to give an opinion, without knowing your whole side of the paper. They might not know if you are for or against the death penalty based on your paragraph from your paper, they just know you wrote about it, so it allows them to focus on the sentence structure, references formatting etc.
With that unbiased opinion on your topic, the changes made can make it more user central, as they may even suggest a counter argument you had not thought about, thus enriching your paper. With each person having a different background each comment can add something new to think about with their review of the post. Sometimes, the feedback might be there, but it doesn’t mean you have to take it, it just allows you the opportunity to see it from a different point of view. Both things were used to enrich my papers, whether changes were made or not, I always had a new thought process to think about based of most of my peers replies to discussions.
