PM-FPX5018: Project Management Foundations
11 June 2021
SCOPE 2
The projects’ scope is founded on tasks that are aimed at establishing widget management
systems. The project showcases elements that are in as well as out of scope. The aspects within
the scope entail the acquisition of cloud systems and installing them in the firm. The evident out-
of-scope facets are actual reduction of firm costs and reduced operational price. These elements
can only be arrived at or realized once the project’s scope is completed. The core objective is to
manage the widget, which has increasing importance. The project is seeking to achieve cost
reduction by acquiring reliable widget management systems. The other goal is to achieve a better
usage of modern operational technologies. Another vital objective is reducing operating costs
due to the cloud-based system’s efficiency (Institute, 2019). The project will involve sourcing
and installing cloud systems in the firm. The project managers will oversee all operations to
ensure that the project gets completed successfully. The project will require several weeks to
complete. The tasks involved are the conception of the idea, planning, execution, monitoring,
and closure. The cloud systems will be tested to confirm their efficiency before the project’s
closure. There are a few limitations that may face the company. During project execution,
restrictions such as cost and quality are likely to emerge. Expenses on cloud hardware and
software, and other resources may increase, hence affecting the entire project. Cases of poor-
quality resources, especially labor and materials, can affect the project adversely. Risks and time
inadequacy are evident constraints that will affect the project. As such, the project managers can
avoid risks and ensure that project teams observe the stipulated timelines.
SCOPE 3
Assumptions
The cloud-based system will bring forth positive results. Apart from eliminating high
operational costs, it will improve efficiency. Although the expenses required to support the cloud
will be increased, the benefits will be more once the project lapses. The firm’s clientele will
enjoy affordable and high-quality services. To be precise, the operational facility will operate
better compared to the period before cloud-based systems. The improvements will facilitate
client satisfaction, an aspect that will enhance competitiveness in the operative sector. The firm
will not incur high operational costs in the future after taking the technological path.
Project Phases
The project will involve five main phases. They entail initiation, planning, execution,
monitoring and control, and closure. As the first stage, project initiation involves examining a
project’s value and feasibility. The managers will employ feasibility studies and business case
documents to proceed with initiation. Project planning occurs after a project has been approved.
In planning, project managers will capitalize on acquiring resources, finances, and the relevant
materials (Lock, 2017). The project execution phase involves building deliverables that meet the
customers’ needs. The core tasks at this phase are keeping team members focused and allocated
resources accordingly. The fourth phase is project monitoring, which involves matching
performance with the expected goals. It is vital to examine variations from the indicated costs
and times. This approach will keep the project running smoothly without any hurdles. Project
closure is the final phase, which terminates the project after realizing the desired goals. The
teams handling the project will close it after delivering the cloud-based system to the firm.
SCOPE 4
Timelines
The project’s tasks are well-planned to facilitate its execution and achievement of results.
The conception will take place in four days. This period is enough for the project managers and
stakeholders to recognize the essence of cloud systems (Institute, 2019). With specialists in
place, it will only take three days to plan the project. Three days are adequate since the firm is in
dire need of reducing its costs. The execution will take a whole week to allow proper system
installation and examinations. The closure will occur three days after implementation to enable
the firm to observe its response to the cost factor.
