Is the Internet Making You “Stupid”?
Internet is among the controversial issues where every individual has a particular opinion. The issues of internet and the social media have been believed by several individuals to cause stupidity among people. On the other hand, others also believe that the internet does not lead to any stupidity instead it is a modern technology making people explore the entire universe at their comfort. Internet is technology making people which advanced knowledge explore and get the information they require without any deny. It implies that most individuals are can access the information without complexity in case they are no faced with any challenge.
My position on the issue is that the internet has indeed increased the level of people’s stupidity in the world. According to the controversial issue, some of the opinions that support my position include being concerned that the internet leads to more complications such as the inability to perform certain simple tasks including basic mathematics or reading and interpreting the information presented on the map (Juli, Juli & Juli, 2020). According to the findings of other researchers, information is availed on the internet including methods of performing numerous basic tasks such as math. As a result, it becomes challenging to do basic things without referring to the internet. Therefore, it is indeed true that the internet leads to an inability to perform particular tasks.
The second supporting point is that it is challenging to tell if the information presented on the internet is truthful. It is because some internet sites contain information that is not verified or justified to be the right content. On the other some of the content within the specific sites are truthful. However, it is hard to tell whether the information is valid or not. The last supportive point is that since I have used the internet through various means including computers, the concentration alongside attention span reduces (Correa, & Bareinboim, 2017, February). It implies that since everything is readily available on the internet, most individuals do not think. Therefore, they retrieve the data from the internet and use it as primary data. However, most individuals should begin thinking and contracting on other important issues and activities other than the internet.
The most likely three premises opposing my position include the fact that most internet information is reliable. It cannot be justified whether every data presented on the internet is reliable as some authors or editors are recognized. It implies that it is challenging to tell whether the individual posting the information has retrieved them from reliable sources and is worth human consumption.
Therefore, believing that the information is reliable would lead to a wrong conclusion. The second reason is that since I have much interest in the internet via laptops or smartphones, the internet the concentration and attention span is increased (Noblitt & Harkness, 2017). Knowing the right information and increasing concentration does not depend on the internet. The other opposing reason is that much of the internet information is false. Telling whether the information within the internet sources is false is technical. Some internet sites are not known whether they present the right content.

While evaluating the premises for and against the position on the controversial issue, two types of biases are experienced. They include information bias alongside selection bias. The information bias result when the information presented becomes challenging and technical to understand and interpret. For instance, the pros and cons information was challenging had to identify. Section bias results when the information is challenging thus creating difficulty on how to determine which information may support or oppose the controversial issue.
The culture may also determine and influence the biases on a particular issue. On several occasions, I believe that most individuals are capable of presenting the information based on how they understand it. While taking a position on whether the internet results in stupidity, m culture influenced my opinion on the position. It implies that the decision is based upon the culture. For instance, I believe that the internet does not offer any quality and reliable information based on the issue.
After applying the believing game, my thinking on the concept has not changed as there is no substantive information presented against my arguments. Still, I believe that the internet has led to stupidity on us due to various reasons supporting my position. It implies that my position on the issues has remained the same.
In conclusion, the Internet is among the controversial issues where every individual has their particular opinion. The issues of internet and the social media have been believed by several individuals to cause stupidity among people. My position on the issue is that the internet has indeed increased the level of people’s stupidity in the world.
