Features Overview
Sage Software is the creator of DacEasy Accounting Systems, 2013, which is the latest release of this application shopping. Sage is known for having deep expertise in accounting and financial management applications for small and medium businesses. This latest version of DacEasy Accounting System is comprised of five modules specifically designed for the small and medium business user. These modules include accounting, entry, job costing payroll, Business Center and Point of Sale (POS). All are integrated to the platform level with a common data model that Sage uses to unify all of its applications together. For all this functionality, Sage has been able to streamline its applications to run on a very minimally configured system. This entire software package can run on a typical desktop PC with the current Intel processors, which makes the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) extremely low. The initial software cost is relatively high however, at $2,299. This is a relatively high price for the functionality delivered; the one redeeming aspect of this price is the streamline installation and minimal system configuration needed to run it successfully.
Evaluating the Pros and Cons
The Sage DacEasy Suite of accounting applications has a relatively large installed base of several thousand small and medium businesses globally. For the size of the customer base, there are relatively low levels of customer references however. This is not a goo design; it says the majority of the customers are either not using the system or are not satisfied with it. Typically with software applications that have large customer bases that are satisfied and pleased with the application, there is a very broad base of success stories. After completing a pros and cons analysis of DacEasy it is understandable why there are not that many solid customer references for this application.
Pros
Sage has done an excellent job of designing in usability and ease of navigation with these series of applications; they are intuitive and quickly learned.
Excellent support and help desk support. Sage has been experiencing lower sales and lack of renewals so they are charging for tier 1 support today.
Strong at Point of Sale basic functions and retail transaction support.
Accounting Module supports the core functional areas of budgets, cash flow, Income Statements and Balance Sheets.
Cons
Lack of customer references is a warning sign of a lack of customer satisfaction or that the application is not meeting fundamental needs.
Very weak at fixed asset analysis and reporting. This latter point is particularly troubling given how pervasive analytics are being used today.
Cannot choose between cash and accrual accounting; this is a major weakness in the fundamental structure of this application. Does not support a scheduled run time, or batch mode, for reports either.
Does not support graphical reporting and analysis, only tabular reporting.
