Difference between a plan and a script

Think about groups you may have been in previously. Was the purpose clear? Please share your experiences where the leader or members were not clear. *It would be wise to have a plan when you walk into a group. Sometimes the group will take you away from your plan because they have an agenda. Be flexible. There is a difference between a plan and a script. You can not script your sessions however you can plan for them. If you fail to plan you plan to fail. And in this new school my counseling meetings are very good I am learning a lot and that the last meeting where she was the facilitator was very well prepared. As part of the course requirement I attended a mandatory group session to help build my interpersonal skills. I planned to engage my peers and to acquire knowledge experience and skills necessary to be an efficient psychologist. However the purpose of the session was not clear. It involved sharing personal experiences that had a significant impact on one’s life. However the leader was not clear on why it was necessary to share such experiences nor did he explain the reason by the end of the group sessions. Further the shared experiences had no similarities. An essential goal of group therapy is establishing a sense of belonging by sharing common experiences that foster understanding. Therefore it is evident that the group session I attended failed to establish a sense of belonging and foster understanding which made it confusing to participate in the sessions. In addition my agenda was not fulfilled as the leader did not bother to ask the participants if they had any personal agendas. He assumed that a unified agenda was the right approach and that members should be able to fit in and share their experiences within the larger group agenda something that was not necessarily true in my case. To go into it expecting to establish a “sense of belonging by sharing common experiences” as you mentioned and come out even more confused must have been very disappointing.
