The project will take the form of
A comprehensive literature review performed systematically – where students will investigate an area of professional practice and focus on developing evidence-based Assessment Details
You will prepare and submit a 15,000-word dissertation, which captures the data collection, data analysis and reflection of your chosen research project in year 3. It is essential to divide this research proposal the following chapters/sections:
to demonstrate how you have answered the research question.
Systematized Reviews:
Students CANNOT do a full systematic review on their own. What they are usually doing is a ‘systematized review’ (see Grant and Booth, 2009). The Grant and Booth paper will help the student describe and justify this type of review. Alternatively, you can describe how you ‘adapted the systematic review’ approach with a rationale for the approach you took – comparing it with a standard approach.

Below are the recommended chapter headings with the recommended content for each. Chapter 1: Background (approx. 2000):
Background should contain the background to, and rationale for the chosen focus and subject area, and relevance to your practice. The importance of this project for your practice background, rationale and the research question/ aims and objectives.
Chapter 2: Methodology (approx. 2500)
The rationale for why a ‘systematised review’ or ‘adapted systematic review’ approach was taken should be given. This should include a brief explanation of epistemological and ontological considerations, and a description of why the research question requires the approach (usually post-positivistic).
Chapter 3: Methods (approx. 2500)
Describe and give a rationale for data search, extraction, appraisal, synthesis/analysis methods, we strongly recommend the use of tables for search terms and in/exclusion criteria, as well as use of a flow chart/PRISMA diagram and a data extraction table/matrix. The stance taken towards managing ethic in published data should be covered here too.
Chapter 4: Findings (approx. 4000)
A presentation of the findings (themes) with all included articles in an integrated fashion with critical engagement with the literature.
Chapter 5: Discussion & Recommendations (2500)
Ramifications of the findings in light of the background provided, as well as the strengths and limitations of the approach taken and implications of the findings for practice.
Chapter 6: Conclusion (approx. 1500)
The main conclusions of the project alongside how the research aims and objectives have been answered by review.
