Directions: This is a two-part assignment due within 30 hours. Please read the directions carefully, as you must use information from Arizona Department of Education. You must list the ELA and ELP standards included the abbreviations and acronyms.

Part 1
Allocate at least 5 hours in the field to support this field experience.
Observe at least one grade 6-12 classroom with ELLs. Focus your observations on how the alignment between the learning objectives and ELP standards is achieved.
Discuss with your mentor teacher ways in which ELL progress in the language domains is measured and the types of assessment data utilized to inform instruction. Additionally, discuss with your mentor how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and English language proficiency (ELP) standards can inform instruction.
Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the mentor teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.
Write a 250-500 word summary of your discussion and observation, and reflect on the application of UDL to your future professional practice.
Your reflection should address the following:
· How elements of UDL could inform ELL curriculum and instruction
· A brief explanation regarding alignment between ELP standards and learning objectives
· Examples of assessment tools used to measure and document ELL progress
· Examples of at least two types of assessment data used to inform ELL instruction
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Part 2

Lesson Planning with Universal Design for Learning

Among the most important aspects of English language proficiency development are the integration of ELL cultural values and beliefs into instruction and the differentiation of instruction to address specific learning needs of all students.
For this assignment, you will create an English language arts lesson plan that integrates the cultural values and beliefs of ELLs and utilizes components of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
Using the “COE Lesson Plan Template” and the “Class Profile,” create at least one learning objective for your chosen level of students between grades 6-12 that aligns with both Arizona ELP and ELA standards.
Your lesson plan should include:
· Differentiated instructional strategies and learning activities to address students’ language differences, giftedness, and special education needs (as listed on the “Class Profile”)
· Incorporation of technology to support English language development
· Formative and summative assessments for the learning activities

Your lesson plan must clearly express how the teacher will represent the concepts to be taught, how ELLs will express what they are learning, and how they will be engaged throughout the lesson.
