Goal: The goal of this paper is simple, but also deliberately vague. I want you to pick some topic in developmental economics and write a research paper on it. You may, for example, write a paper addressing some of the contradictions we will discuss. You may, for example, write a paper explaining why this or that reading/paper is incorrect. You may, for example, write a paper critiquing the key assumptions of development economics or the methodology I am using for the class. You may, for example, write a paper explaining why some idea you have ought to be tried to help developing economies. Or something else! It’s really up to you. The paper may be as technical or non-technical as you want. Grading: Given how vague the description of the paper is, you would be rightfully asking yourself “How will I be graded?” You will be graded on how well you defend your claim. A paper with no econometrics in it but has a solid economic argument will be better than a paper with lots of econometrics in it but flawed economic reasoning. But you need to do more than just make a well-reasoned argument. I expect proper grammar and spelling, not to mention reasonable formatting (discussed below). I highly recommend using both an editing software (I use Grammarly for my writing) and having a real human read your paper. Respectable citations will also be needed. If your paper cites Wikipedia exclusively, you will lose points. Be sure you are using good sources! Additionally, all papers must be properly cited for an academic paper. While I prefer Chicago-style citations, I will accept any format. Requirements: 5 pages
