Guidelines:

Skim the provided material to find a topic of interest, then choose one area within that topic to research & create a short report for the class. Research (using credible sources), then present what you discovered on the discussion board and include at least one music (audio/video) sample. If available, student samples are provided. You do not have to cover the entire topic, but explore one aspect of it.

You can complete this assignment as a narrative essay (traditional discussion board style), or zhuzh it up with a slideshow (i.e. PowerPoint, Google Slides in a/bulleted format w/graphics), or infographic (i.e. Ease.ly – free!) or recording it as a presentation. If you prefer to stay with a narrative (essay) format, this can still be an engaging presentation of information. Post your content onto the discussion board and include embedded videos (not attachments; links only for slide presentations/narrated videos).

Media: Include music sample(s) to accompany your information. To Embed videos into your report, it is recommended that you download music samples you want to use to avoid ads or vanishing videos. To secure music clips (for academic purposes only), go to: https://www.4kdownload.com/ (free). Be sure to caption any picture or video that is used with identifying information.

Caption photos and videos with identifying information (artist/composer, title, source)

Cite any research sources you used within your post (i.e. if statistics or direct quotes are used) or at the end of report.

Basic Outline:

¶/Slide 1: Introduce topic, explain interest

¶/Slide 2+: 3-5 paragraphs/slides explaining subject, pros & cons (if applicable), include audio example(s); bullet points are fine.

¶/Slide: Conclusion – summarize topic, give your opinion on topic based on your research

If you have Gmail use Google Drive. Caveat: Save and download files in standard formats, i.e. docx, pdf, ppt), or if using the “Share” feature, be sure to change the settings to allow “Anyone with Link” the ability to view.

It’s alright to respectfully disagree with someone (it’s an art that seems to be missing in today’s society) and can make for stimulating, thoughtful conversation. Some of these options support various opinions. Explain your reasoning (cite sources if necessary) and keep it civil.
