Hi, Please read and answer this peer (it’s a discussion question): Phenomena like the explosion of IT, global warming, the recent pandemic and the evolution of people’s beliefs and values have forced changes and commanded trends in governments and industries. Beliefs and values have driven policy and politics, bringing a new wave of laws and industry standards like gender equality and diversity. The Healthcare industry is no exception to this rule. Artificial intelligence and robotics is a technology that will become increasingly appealing to healthcare administrators as they offer the possibility of rendering services without human-to-human contact. Marr (2020) stated that AI can run algorithms to determine a user’s preferences and robotics could be implemented in assisted living patient care. He continued to say drones could be used for delivery of vital prescriptions where there is a risk of viral transmission. Marr (2020) also talked of what he termed the ‘As-A-Service’ revolution, which is the growing inclination of companies towards cloud-based on-demand platforms, from providers like Google, Microsoft and Amazon. 5G is another emergent technology that will enable patients to interface with healthcare services from their mobile device without compromising on network connection speed. Specifically to healthcare, Marr (2020) stated that focus of advanced research in medicine, vaccines and social care have shifted to tackle Covid-19, and that key trends like biotechnology, virtual reality, smart cities and robotics will all have a part to play. Marr (2020) went ahead to mention virtual care and remote medicine, and genomic and gene editing as two of the trends that will dominate the Healthcare industry in the next few years. Glenn (2020) suggested that the recent global pandemic has exposed the unsustainability in the current fee-for-service US healthcare system with families and employers having to pay increasingly more for medical insurance. When we consider that the government, through Medicaid and Medicare, is the single largest payer for healthcare in this country (CMS, n.d.), the impact of this change could be of significance on the US economy.
