Response One

· What “recycled themes” are apparent in fictional or mythical hero stories? Give specific examples.

· Recycled themes are apparent in fictional or mythical hero stories over and over again throughout history.  They appear to be every day normal individuals who all of a sudden become super hero’s over night for the good of mankind. For example, Peter Parker who an everyday guy, nerdy, who got bitten by a spider and became Spiderman.
· Why do these recycled themes exist so often in these stories?

· They are simple and easy to understand. In a Hero’s Journey, a symbolic relationship is a Situational Archetype that tends to recur throughout storytelling history (Safford, D. 2020). A situation in which two characters or forces are  set in opposition to one another, mirroring the way opposing forces tend to collide, harmonize, and balance over time in the real world (Safford, D. 2020).  This has drawn audiences for many years and keeps the interest going for numerous sequels to continue to be made.
· How does the concept of the monomyth/Hero’s Journey and the other recycled themes in hero stories support or refute the theory of popular culture you wrote about in your Unit 2 assignment?

· I chose to write about critical Theory has a narrow and a broad meaning in philosophy and in the history of the social sciences. Several generations of German philosophers and social theorists in the Western European Marxist tradition known as the Frankfurt School (Bohman, J. 2005).  “Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth, developed in Hero With A Thousand Faces, describes the common heroic narrative in which a heroic protagonist sets out, has transformative adventures, and returns home. It is a useful formula for comparing literary traditions across time and culture” (Monomyth: Hero’s Journey Project. 2021).  This gave the world the picture if there was someone, such as a superhero, that was created to help deal with the problems, we all would be saved.   A lot of films betrays mainly the lower class needing they help from a superhero then eventually everyone needing that person to help them as well.

Response Two

· What “recycled themes” are apparent in fictional or mythical hero stories? Give specific examples. According to blogger Toby Lichtig, all writers are repetitive, and some recycle. In many cases, a part of repetition is what we admire or like about our favorite authors or novelist yet it can be a bit much and taken a little too far such as movie makers for example  Friday the 13th series after the first three I was like ok so now you are saying Jason goes to Manhattan I could not get into that one at all but the one that lit my spirit up was Jason vs Freddy it was interesting being two of my favorite horror movie characters. The recycled them I have found in horror movies is that there are rules and in everyone after the standard rule of who dies in a scary movie is broken then the slashing begins such as rule number one no drinking, no sex, and never split up to go and try and find out what the noise is or to go to the electric box to flip switches in the basement lol. Fictional or mythical hero stories usually have the same themes such as Heroic Quest, Humans with extraordinary gifts, Love redemption, and lastly the heroic champion. A modern-day example of this would be Harry Potter as a gifted human, Lord of the Rings as a heroic quest, Buffy the vampire slayer or Charmed as a heroic champion, and Hamlet as the love redemption (Lichtig, 2019).

· Why do these recycled themes exist so often in these stories? The themes are interesting, and they capture the imagination, and many times soothe the need for excitement, a great love story with a happy ending. These themes are a hit especially when you continue to create more modern-day heroes as the times call for them such as the Suicide Squad or any of the Marvel movies. These themes are legendary and worthy of repetition it allows each generation to have the experience of having a hero of their time with the history that dates back centuries.

· How does the concept of the monomyth/Hero’s Journey and the other recycled themes in hero stories support or refute the theory of popular culture you wrote about in your Unit 2 assignment? The Monomyth journey is separated into three parts: Departure, Initiation, and Return. In the takeoff stage, the legend isolates himself from his conventional world by using experiencing a task the place he faces each one of the preliminaries; Initiation manages the beginning of the saint’s new journey and returns control the change saint’s arrival to the common world. The matters of takeoff, commencement, and return have been reused and rehashed on special activities in the legend stories. The thought of the monomyth or saint’s voyage and reused topics existed in anecdotal and legendary saint testimonies given that they upheld the speculation of mainstream lifestyle frequent on those occasions. These topics have been commonplace and pursued mentioned traditions and properties (Contributor, 2020).
