Im working on a information technology project and need support to help me study. Please read the assignment description and then watch the video embedded below. You dont need to include those in your knowledge graph unless you want to 🙂 Knowledge graphs are computational networks of concepts and relationships. In this assignment you will individually create your own knowledge graph that demonstrates your understanding of the intersection between sustainability and technology. Please complete this activity on your own without using outside resources such as collaborating with classmates or searching on the internet. The idea is to map your existing mental model not to just parrot back information you find elsewhere. In to build your knowledge graph you will need to download and use the software CmapTools (Links to an external site.). The video embedded in this assignment shows how to build and export a knowledge graph using this tool in the required format. We encourage you to use the Windows or OSX computer versions of this software if possible. However if you do not have a Windows or OSX computer and are taking this course using an iPad we have a small amount of funding to defray the $5 cost of this software on that platform; please contact TA Hayden Freedman to arrange logistics for reimbursement. And if you are taking this class but do not have a compatible device of any sort please contact Hayden to make alternative arrangements. As a point of reference the image below shows a small knowledge graph about coffee and related concepts generated using CmapTools software. The graph you create should use the same formatting as the graph in this image; however you will likely choose to use different concepts and a different set of relationship labels. In the image concepts are represented as Wikipedia URLs and enclosed within blue boxes. Relationship labels are shown as text along the relationship arrows which imply a directed relationship between the two concepts that they link. Each concept in a knowledge graph has a unique identifier such as a URL. The concepts that you include in your knowledge graph must all be article titles from English Wikipedia. Please use the full URL for the page you would like to include in your knowledge graph not just the article title itself. For example when including the concept of “Sustainability” you should use https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainability (Links to an external site.). It will probably be helpful to keep a browser tab open to Wikipedia as you construct your map. If there is a concept that you want to represent but is not present in Wikipedia please use this form (Links to an external site.) to let us know. Try to find the Wikipedia article that is closest to what you are trying to represent. Do not use Wikipedia article subheadings. For example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee (Links to an external site.) is a valid concept but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee#Health_effects (Links to an external site.) is not. To guide you through the process we are providing a library of 20 relationship labels that you may use to link concepts in your knowledge graph. The list appears below this paragraph. Please only use relationship labels that are in this list and copy the text exactly as it appears here into your knowledge graph. We encourage you to build a rich network with many relationships between concepts. Do not use the same concept multiple times; each concept should only appear once. However you may use each relationship label as many times as you would like. Additional notes: Requirements: Using only the knowledge in your own head and no external sources build a knowledge graph with at least 10 concepts connected by at least 9 relationships with concepts as Wikipedia article links and relationship labels from the list above. Export your graph from CmapTools using the .cxl format and upload the .cxl file to Canvas. We will not be able to accept submissions using other file formats. For this assignment you will not be graded on the accuracy of the information you provide only on whether the structure of your knowledge graph meets the requirements This is the first of several assignments that will build on each other over the course of the quarter. For this first assignment we are asking you to try to represent how you think about sustainability and technology now before you have engaged with most of the course content. A common issue with CmapTools is that the relationship arrows disappear. You can often solve this problem by moving the relationship label below the concept to which the relationship points. However don’t worry too much about this; the arrow is still there even if you can’t see it. Don’t focus too much on the aesthetic arrangement of your knowledge graph; we will be processing it without regard for the organization of the concepts and relationships on your screen. You should arrange it in the way that is easiest for you to work with. If you’re having trouble with any aspect of the assignment or if anything is unclear to you ask on Piazza or e-mail the teaching staff! We are here to help you.
