In my opinion I believe each of these is interrelated and very important to the role of APN. Nurse practitioners have an important role in health care. APNs have leadership expectations and help adhere to and facilitate legal concerns ethical considerations and risk management. The ability to make ethical decisions is one of the essential skills of an APRN (Tracy& O’Grady 2019). An issue becomes an ethical dilemma when a decision requires you to choose two or more different results but you are unable to choose between them (Tracy & O’Grady 2019). Risk management is identifying potential problems and risks and trying to keep them under control. Legal issues are those dealing with if someone has adhered to the law whereas ethical concerns are doing what is right or wrong as a human being. If someone is not following the code of ethics and negligently practicing they could face legal discipline. According to Dolan (2017) there are times when NPs may experience that the boundaries of moral ethical and legal conduct are not clear cut. In this situation it the duty of the APN to know and understand the scope of their role based on their state so that they can make a proper decision (Dolan 2017). 2- TRACEY Legal issues ethical considerations and risk management are all factors that affect Nurse Practitioners. Ethical and legal dilemmas can arise in healthcare in many different scenarios for example when a patient and/or a patient’s family disagrees on what is appropriate care. Often a healthcare professional has to make a decision between doing what is considered good and doing what the patient wishes. NPs must choose to do what is in the patients best interest at all times. Ethics is interrelated into the legal issues of malpractice because healthcare professionals sign an oath not to harm their patient and when patients are harmed a malpractice suit is more likely to happen. An example is access to care which poses ethical and legal dilemmas because a patient may lack resources to cover the treatment they need and pressure from hospital administrators insurance companies and managed care organizations further constrain the choices for treatment and prescriptions (Dowd 2018). The ANA Code of Ethics (2015) states that healthcare is a universal right and all nurses commit to advancing health welfare and safety. This is a commitment that nurses make to reflect the intent to achieve and sustain health as a means to the common good so that people and communities develop to their highest potential and live with dignity (ANA 2015).
