Life Under Segregation

Directions CORE assignment:

1. Read the questions below to understand the scope of the assignment. You will need to answer all the questions on this paper.
2. Watch Voices of Baltimore: Life Under Segregation (film) on Ed puzzle .
   1. Respond to the questions imbedded in the movie, which will be graded
   2. Take notes so you can respond to the questions below for your paper.
3. Read When Baltimore Awakes, Part I and Part II to respond to the questions below.
4. Read The Troubled History of American Education, After Brown Decisions, to respond to the questions below.
5. Organized your responses to each of the questions. Using the questions as the heading, craft your responses drawing on what you have learned from the sources.  You could also expand your research if you still have a question.  You may also use any of the resources used during this semester.
6. Response to Core Assessment Questions are worth 10 points each which means this paper is worth 70 points total.
7. Additional 30 points will be for grammar, writing and flow of the paper, evidence of sources used through citations, APA style, annotated bibliography )

Having watched the film Voices of Baltimore, read When Baltimore Awakes (part I and II) and The Troubled History of American Education, After Brown Decisions students will write responses to the following questions:

Q1- (LO 5 and LO 4) Compare how the reading and film describe the ways that Brown v Board was implemented?

Q2- (LO 1 and LO 3) What problems around racism and segregation have persisted since 1954?  How have systems of inequality been re entrenched or transformed?

Q3- (LO 3 and LO 4) What qualities of historically black communities before Brown v Board were beneficial and empowering?

Q4- (LO 3 and LO 4) How might urban communities today reclaim those qualities (without supporting a pro-segregation narrative?)

Q5-(LO 2 and LO 5) In your opinion, how can critical self-reflection (rethinking role of self as part of a system) transform self and world?

Q6- (LO 1 and LO 4) How have these resources influenced how you see yourself in relationship to the history and current state of race relations, power, and oppression in your personal sphere and/or the world?

Q7- (LO 2 and LO 5) Do the film and reading change how you see yourself in relationship to culturally identify differently than you, or to people who culturally identify like you?
