S2: Yea, I thought so too. That’s what I saw on the weather report on TV last night. They never get the weather right.

S1: I suppose the wind chill is really bringing down the temperature down making it cooler than it is.

S2: Do you mind if we go inside? I feel like my toes are starting to go numb. I will make us both some warm coffee.

S1: That sounds great. Do you have any cookies?

S2: For sure. I brought a packet this morning.

S1: I will also make a log fire.

S2: That sounds wonderful. I like log fires they’re so beautiful.

S1: OK let’s get inside and get warm.

Text 2

Hormones can be identified as chemical agents which are synthesized by circumscribed parts of the body, generally specialized ductless glands, and are carried by the circulatory system to another part of the body where they evoke systemic adjustments by acting on rather specific target tissues or organs. They regulate many processes such as growth, regeneration, reproduction, blood chemistry, metabolic rate, etc. Hormones act on the organs and tissues of the body by regulating the rate of specific metabolic reactions without contributing much at all to the constituent cell. It can be said that adjustments to hormone levels require duration rather than speed, as opposed to the rapid coordinations of the body that are controlled by the nervous system. These biochemical adjustments are accomplished at the cellular level by virtue of their power to restrain special enzyme systems.
