MGT 4399: Quality Management

Module 1 Journal: Identify a Process Improvement Project Guidelines and Rubric

The journal exercises in this course should reinforce your understanding of the Quality Management DMAIC methodology which will greatly
assist you in passing the LSSGB certification exam. You will identify a process you are familiar with that could serve as an example of a project
that could benefit from DMAIC process improvement. You will refer back to this example throughout the course as you continue to learn about
the DMAIC methodology of quality management.

In this journal assignment, you are going to identify a process with which you are familiar, and identify a need for improvement in that process.
For example, think about the process for pizza and delivery illustrated with the process map below from Example 4.2 in An Introduction to
Six Sigma & Process Improvement. Imagine the entire process from a customer ing a pizza from the restaurant and all the subsequent
activities that take place until the pizza is delivered to the customer.

For this journal assignment, you are going to describe all the activities in a process, just like the pizza ing and delivery process illustrated
above. Specifically, be sure to address the following:

● Identify a process with which you have experience and to which the DMAIC methodology for process improvement could be applied, and
explain why (e.g., pizza and delivery process (illustrated in the process map image above)).

MGT 4399: Quality Management

● Explain the high-level processes involved in completing some specific task(s) (e.g., the process of taking a pizza , or cooking the

pizza, or delivering the pizza).
● Describe some inefficiency, problem, or other areas that you think could be improved in those processes for that task. For example, see

the image above. The taker did not verify the customer , delivery address, or payment method–all of which will create
inefficiencies in the process that will adversely affect the quality and cost if the is written incorrectly, the address is recorded
incorrectly, or the customer wants to pay in a method that the delivery staff cannot accept.

Guidelines for Submission: Your journal should be 1 to 2 paragraphs in length.
Instructor Feedback: This activity uses an integrated rubric in Blackboard. Students can view instructor feedback in the Grade Center.
