Knowledge Goals of the Course: Religion in America (REL 321) is a survey of the history pluralism gender race ethnicity politics and social reform in faith communities in the United States with special interest in how these religious organizations respond to sexuality the environment bioethical issues and violence. The experience can broaden and deepen your ability to understand how these organizations struggle with the questions that human beings in all cultures ask about their lives. Learning Outcomes: Like other humanities courses Religion in America is concerned with questions of existence and human life questions of meaning knowledge and ways of thinking and knowing and questions of moral aesthetic and other human values. This course can also help you search out how these questions have been probed in the past and how they are dealt with by faith communities in the United States today to better develop your own evolving personal ideas and beliefs.
