School Trip Essay

Many people have their list of regrets for their high school life. A lot of things happen, contrary to their expectations, especially when finding love. At the age of 17, Ian was a senior student at Lakewood High School. Despite being antisocial, he was humble and caring towards his friends. This character made Ian wonder why girls always chose his inconsiderate classmates over him. With only a few days remaining for the most anticipated trip for the seniors, Ian had not mastered the courage to express her feelings towards Monica, her long-time crush.

Monica was one of the fun-loving and smart girls in Ian’s class. She had the sort of underrated prettiness, probably because of her unawareness of her beauty. Her flawless brown skin and perfectly formed body made her stand out from the rest of the girls. She embraced simplicity and ensuring those around her relaxed. Her smile was a charm for those around her, making him alluring to both genders. It made Ian feel that she was too good for him. But then, this did not stop him from trying his shot.

On Friday evening, Ian approached Monica on their way from classes. They could not stop talking about how hard that semester exams have been. When they were getting close to their school bus, Ian decided to change the topic. “So you are excited about the coming trip?” He asked. “Yeah.” She responded as she tried to look away. “Then what is it with your face?” he asked. “About that…, my family is traveling to France during that week, and I have to be with them.” She replied. “I know you wanted me to be there with you, but we will meet next semester.” Ian could not believe what he had heard. He imagined how boring and lonely the school trip, will turn out to be. He could not stop asking many questions on the bus ride towards home. How could this be happening to him? Why was his final year turning out to be like this?

On Saturday morning, the day of the trip, most of Ian’s classmates were earlier than the time they arrive in school. Ian had carried two novels to help with the boredom. Unlike Ian, his classmates could not stop talking about how they were excited about the trip while entering the bus. For many of them, it was the first time they were going to Georgia. Some of the places they planned to visit were Callaway Gardens, Chattahoochee National Forest, Jekyll Island. Within a few minutes, Ian was lost in the first pages of It is Fate, one of his novels. He did not even realize that Monica had arrived and she was sitting next to him. Ian freaked out when a hand waved over his book. So, he decided to look up. He was dazzled by her presence on the bus. “What happened?” He enquired. “There have been attacks at the hotel we were supposed to stay at, so they canceled our trip.” She answered. Her short pink casual dress revealed her perfect figure in everyone’s eyes.

In the afternoon, when they were just about to cross towards Georgia, it started raining, and the driver decided to talk shelter in one of the parks. Monica’s eyes always got Ian every time. As Ian saw it, they had a different tint every time but glowed with this emotion that he could never imagine. Her charming and infectious smile made her look even more beautiful in Ian’s eyes. Their connection was mutual. The timing had never been right for Ian; until now. They were sitting next to each other.

Ian then reached towards Monica’s hands. She was getting uncomfortable with the tingling in her body. He looked straight into her eyes, “I do not know how I can say this, but I love you and admire your character…, all I ever want is to be with you,” he said. Monica stared at him, amazed that this was happening. “I love you too,” she responded. The rain came to a stop, and before they could be on the move again, Ian and Monica left for coffee across the park.

Ian had never loved coffee. But when Monica handed him the cup and looked in his eyes while he tried it, he admitted that it was the best beverage that he had ever taken. His hand was still prickling when he held it. As they were walking towards the bus, the rain started falling again. Monica pulled an umbrella from her bag while Ian hunched his shoulders in protest. “Stop being silly,” she chuckled while dragging inside the umbrella. Suddenly they were standing face to face and could not hold it any longer. Sparks flashing, butterflies fluttering, their lips touched. They wished that this could last longer, like their love for each other. But then, the driver was honking the bus. It was the time to be on the move and get to Georgia before the day ends.
