Self-reflection and synthesis

Describe your experiences during your first week of your internship. The purpose of journaling is an opportunity for self-reflection and synthesis. What the student gained from the experience identifying problems if they occurred. Journal 1 I began my day working in the food pantry packing different sorts of food for different family members. After all the packing was done before the pantries open at 3:00pm the community members began to line up with their shopping carts and shopping bags. As 3:00pm approached I watched my supervisor guide everyone in five at a time. She spoke to them so kindly she welcomed them with open arms saying welcome back. She was the highlight of my first day because she showed so much love to these people and you can see her passion. Kelly (supervisor) told me to tally-mark everyone we gave food to. I began packing shopping carts shopping bags. Some people get upset because they want certain things or people are skipping in the line but Kelly remains cools and always calms the problem. By the time the panty closed at 5:00pm we counted 183 tallies. One thing that stuck out to me was the way Kelly dealt with the family members. She was so passionate and patient with them. She accepted each and every one of them with open arms. The line literally went around the block. No matter how far back the line went Kelly made sure everyone on the line was ok. I really did enjoy my time being there. I love interacting and being able to be that person to help someone day easier or better. As each person left they left with the biggest smile on their faces and it melted my heart.
