Are there particular challenges that are likely to face new democracies that are ethnically diverse? Are there particular institutional arrangements (e.g. governing systems electoral rules party systems) that might be particularly helpful for ethnically diverse societies to help them eventually become consolidated democracies? Or do you think there are simply a set of “best” institutions for any country that are most likely to result in the country becoming a successfully consolidated democracy regardless of whether the country is ethnically homogenous or ethnically diverse?
