The proposal paper will be 5-7 pages in length (double spaced). You will be asked to select and apply a specific approach to group counseling to a particular client population. You will also be required to discuss the specific issues and processes you will encounter at the various stages of the group counseling scenario you are discussing. Rubrics will be used to grade your work. Assignments should be written in the format of the most current edition of the APA manual. Each paper must be submitted via Blackboard and emailed copies will not be accepted. Policies in regard to turning work in late also apply to these assignments. The proposal paper will consist of a paper that is at least 5 full pages for the body. Each paper must be double spaced with size 12 Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins on all sides. Also remember that per the departmental grading rubric at least three scholarly journals must be used (most strong papers will require several more). In addition your paper must be in APA format (one inch margins double spaced) 5-7 double spaced pages for the body APA style Section Headings and a reference page. You are required to provide 3 scholarly journal sources to support your claims that are not provided as part of this course. Please be sure to avoid using internet sources such as Wikipedia or other web-based resources that do not have strong academic backing. You will also be required to use in-text references in your work in accordance with APA style to avoid plagiarism. Plagiarism detection software will be used to scan each paper. It is important to back up all opinions with appropriate citations. Refer to the writing rubric (located in the course information tab) for a guideline as to how your paper will be graded. Students are strongly encouraged to use the writing center ([email protected]) for assistance with all assignments as APA style is historically a challenge for most writers. The electronic email version of your research paper in Microsoft WORD format (no .docx papers accepted) should be submitted via the blackboard website. For the Proposal Paper you will be asked to select a therapy approach (e.g. Adlerian) and a population to work with (e.g. children). You will then be asked to apply your therapy approach to the population you have selected by addressing many of the tasks issues and problems that are addressed throughout the group therapy process. Be sure to take your reader through all the relevant stages of the group therapy process as follows:Part I of each paper requires you to develop a proposal for the group you wish to run. In Part 2 of each paper you will present the stages of group process and discuss the issues you are likely to confront during the stage and the therapeutic technique(s) you will apply to address these issues. The Proposal Paper must include the following sections. You may use APA formatted headings. So for example you may want to discuss with your reader how you would use “Making the rounds” (a Gestalt warm-up technique) with children for the purpose of drawing out silent participants in the initial stage of the group. How and when would you introduce this technique? How would you facilitate the children during this activity to best achieve your hoped outcome (e.g. greater participation from all members)? Given the length of this paper (i.e. 5-7 pages) you will not be able to address every issue as it pertains to the approach population and stage being discussed. Therefore you will need to select those issues techniques and problems that are most meaningful to you and most relevant to the approach and population you are writing about.
