The Eureka Phenomenon

Your essay should be approximately 1500 words in length and should be typed and double-spaced. It should also be titled. (Use an interesting title: dont called it Essay 1 or First Essay etc.). Choose one of the following topics:

1. Explain how E.B. White develops his argument in “Moonwalk.” If you are going to write about this you will need to have a very clear understanding of how White organizes his essay and develops his argument. You should say something in your essay about hos he uses Ethos Logos and Pathos to develop his argument.

2. Discuss Ethos Logos and Pathos in Martin Luther Kings “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” If you are going to write about this make sure you read the essay several times and have a mastery of how King develops his essay.

3. Discuss one of the essays we have read by Stephen Jay Gould (chapter 1 or chapter 3) in terms of how he develops his argument. There are many ways you can approach one of Goulds essay but whatever approach you use make sure you have a mastery of the way Gould develops his argument in his essay.

4. Explain what Asimovs argument is in his essay “The Eureka Phenomenon”. Identify what you take to be the premises and conclusion of his essay. (This is the Logos part of the essay). As part of your essay offer an evaluation of the essay.

Do you think it is a good essay a terrible essay a great essay? Why or why not? Basically what I want you to do is to offer an intelligent response to Asimovs essay. Exactly how you write your essay is up to you. NOTE: Whatever topic you choose to write about try to make your essay interesting. Imagine other students in the class reading your essay. What you want to do is to write an essay so that when they read it they will have learned something new about the essay that they never though of before. Whatever topic you write about think for yourself and come up with your own ideas. Think for yourself.
