The role of a public health leader in the formation of collaborative partnerships and community empowerment

Public health leaders need to form a collaborative relationship with the local health departments, public health organizations, and community citizens. This is because forming a partnership with the community creates trust and allows for the leaders to get an insight into the issues that are plaguing the community, where once the leaders become understanding. This quality along with the trusted bond of the community creates community empowerment so that the public health officials can more effectively help the community. Furthermore, when a public health leader forms a partnership with the local health departments and public health organizations, it allows room for creativity, and the collaboration allows for shared critical thinking opportunities which increases the knowledge and information as it pertains to the health topic at hand; along with providing a surplus of funding and resources to better improve the health of the community (Estacio, et al., 2017).

Specific leadership qualities that prompt community empowerment

There are various specific leadership qualities that can prompt community empowerment and they are trust, transparency, accountability, respect, empathy, encouragement, motivation, resilience, punctuality, and a good listener. These qualities will allow those in a collaborative partnership to feel like they belong, which will encourage them to partake more in solving the community issues and improve the well-being of the community.
