With a humble beginning as a small candy and chocolate maker SweetInc grew exponentially through innovation and acquisition to become a company of over 15000 employees. By the late 1970s SweetInc’s products were exported to over 90 countries through its international division. Eventually SweetInc sold nearly 3300 products including candies with variations in shapes and sizes. SweetInc sales were US$334 million in 1979 and grew to US$4.3 billion by 2017. The newly hired Chief Information Officer (CIO) proposed to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) that the company implement a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. At the next executive committee meeting the CEO announced the decision to implement a new ERP system. The new system would upgrade key features of the legacy systems and both plan and track a broad range of resources.
