Mentor Discussion – 600 Words

Mentors are trusted advisors that give constructive criticism and provide information for you in many areas. Student 1: Hey everyone! The mentor that I have chosen for this course is Whitney. She works in practice management and oversees multiple specialty clinics that are at the hospital. I met her because she is my managers supervisor, and when there are issues that my supervisor cannot fix, Whitney steps in to solve the issues. I have known her for a little over a year. I selected her because she is pretty high up in hospital administration and oversees multiple clinics. She is apart of the team that sets and enforces many standards across all the specialty clinics at the hospital. I know Whitney will be a great mentor because she is extremely patient and very kind. She handles tough situations calmly and seems to hold herself together very well. She has a lot to deal with, but she seems to enjoy her job and always has a smile on her face. She is educated when it comes to managing clinics, and knows multiple aspects that relate to management in healthcare. She has experience working with many different providers and staff members from different backgrounds and cultures. I think she will help me achieve my career goals, because for one, she has a lot of say with who moves up within the clinics and who does not. She is interested in helping people who want to progress their careers at the hospital. She also works directly with Julie, who is the top person for memorial medical group and is everyone’s boss. One thing that I am lacking is patience when it comes to dealing with co-workers. I think she will be a great mentor because she can help me develop those necessary skills to handle tough situations with patience. She just has a lot of experience overseeing many different types of clinics and providers, so she has a lot of knowledge that I need in to be successful as a healthcare administrator.
